Dr Faishal Ibrahim visits New Life Stories!

Associate Professor Dr. Faishal Ibrahim, Minister of State for the Ministry of Home Affairs and National Development, visited the New Life Stories office on 10 February 2021. MOS had an engaging dialogue session with the New Life Stories’ team and was introduced to our revised four-prong approach to prevent intergenerational incarceration.

During his visit, MOS Faishal had the chance to meet June*, one of our beneficiary from the New Life Stories in-care programme. During the 6-month programme, June wrote Power of Faith while behind bars. The book chronicles the hardship and longing that her family felt while she was serving her sentence. June is now 2 years clean and hopes to become a role model and share her successes with struggling addicts.

Read Power of Faith here.

While June was serving time, our Learning Friends from Hwa Chong Institution, Ethan, Jun Heng and 3 of their schoolmates visited Ulhaq, June’s son, every week as part of our befriending programme. They shared with MOS Faishal how much they have grown since volunteering with New Life Stories in 2018 and have since become close family friends. Ulhaq refers to his Learning Friends affectionately as his ‘abang’ and they share their love for video games and K-pop with each other!
